Beginning English Language Development

This course is tailored for students who are new to the English language. The focus is on building foundational skills to help students communicate effectively in everyday situations and begin to engage with academic content. 

• Listening & Speaking: Students practice understanding and producing basic English phrases, engage in simple conversations, and participate in interactive activities to enhance oral communication skills. 

• Reading: Introduction to reading simple texts, recognizing high-frequency words, and understanding basic sentence structures. 

• Writing: Development of writing skills through constructing simple sentences and short paragraphs, emphasizing correct grammar and punctuation. 

• Vocabulary: Building a foundational vocabulary to support communication and comprehension in various contexts. 

Instructional Approach

The curriculum employs a thematic, integrated approach, utilizing authentic literature, informational texts, and systematic grammar instruction. Students engage in activities that promote active participation and practical application of language skills. 

Intermediate English Language Development

This course is designed for students who have acquired basic English skills and are ready to expand their proficiency to engage more fully with academic content. The emphasis is on refining language skills to facilitate success in mainstream classrooms. 

Key Components: 

• Listening & Speaking: Enhancement of listening comprehension and speaking fluency through discussions, presentations, and collaborative activities. 

• Reading: Analysis of more complex texts, focusing on understanding main ideas, making inferences, and expanding vocabulary. 

• Writing: Development of writing skills to produce coherent paragraphs and short essays, with attention to organization and clarity. 

• Academic Language: Introduction to academic vocabulary and language structures used in various content areas. 

Instructional Approach

Instruction is delivered through a combination of direct teaching, collaborative learning, and independent practice. Materials include leveled texts, multimedia resources, and interactive activities that promote language development in context.
